Omkara’s unique Bharata Natyam curriculum has optimized to deliver the purest experience of Bharata Natyam, accentuated with the culture of our 21st century society. Rooted in tradition, one of the most spiritual and celebrated dance form of India, Omkara’s choreographies will juxtapose the ancient and revered traditions of Bharata Natyam, with avant-garde interpretations.
Accelerated Course Structure
Omkara offers a unique, 5-year long, accelerated Bharata Natyam course that condenses the traditionally 7-year program into a rigorous, yet fast-paced curriculum. Each year of instruction involves 12 months of instruction, with 1 hour of class every week. Two evaluations are performed on the progress of training every year, and an interim Certificate of Completion is provided upon the successful completion of each year.
Bharata Natyam and Beyond
Omkara’s Bharata Natyam includes not only the technique and art of the dance form itself, but also cultural, historical and mythological aspects of Indian Classical Dance. We believe that the instruction of a rich, centuries-old form of classical dance such as Bharata Natyam should be all-encompassing, and should not overlook the significant cultural relevance of this form of dance. Furthermore, we believe that all our disciples should not only be trained in the practice of the dance form itself, but also in the art of the recitals necessary to perform the dance. As such, Bharata Natyam instruction at Omkara, at all levels, involves training in vocal recitals along with the technique of the dance form.
