Famous as ‘land of festivals’, Gujarat celebrates a huge array of festivals with great pomp and show. Who doesn’t know Garba and Raas. Omkara Dance Academy in its series of many workshops on regional folk dance of India is organizing a Workshop for women age above 20. We will be teaching 3 different dances including Prachin Garba, Ghada/Matki Dance, Tippani. A little brief of these folk dances are Prachin Garba: Prachin garba is an ancient garba form where you do simple garba steps in one circle for the whole song. There is normally one person in the middle with a Garbo on their head and everyone dances around them Ghada/Matki Dance: This dance is done with a pot in your hand or on your head. Normally this dance has songs about collecting water. Tippani Dance: In the old days Tippani sticks were hit on the floor to create roads. Over time the work became a dance form and now it is performed by hitting sticks on the floor. All the participants will eligible to perform in the Omkara Academy’s Annual function “Nritiyatva 2019” which will be held on Sept 8, 2019.
